- How long have you been barbering for? -
I started cutting my hair and my friends hair at 14 I am 33 now and have cut hair since then. Really started pursuing barbering full time 6 years ago when I moved back to Canada and was living at Big White Ski resort.
- How would you describe your barbering style? -
My style is definitely a blend of classical old school barbering. The cut throat or straight razor, short back & sides, side part, combover, Princeton with a solid background in the foundational style of the modern barber the Taper, Low/Mid/High skin burst fade game. The mullet is my favourite style of cut there is just such a massive variety to it and it has never gone out of style.
- What first got you into barbering? -
Rookie haircuts in basketball and having difficult hair to cut. I was always trying to fix my own flow.
- What’s your favourite part of the job? -
Giving the confidence that only a fresh cut can give. Being a pillar in the community and a man that any guy can talk to. I have a lot of life experience am a good listener and like asking question that open peoples mind. Barber really are therapist, one haircut at a time.
- What’s the wildest or strangest haircut you’ve ever done? -
I think it is called the Death Hawk. Super long side burns, shaved sides into a Mohawk. Done a few Chelsea Hawks too which are cool.
- What do you find most challenging about barbering? -
There is always something to learn it part of what fuels my passion. There is a new trending style, or changing from commission to rental, to owning a shop. The opportunities are endless which can be a challenge to learn the game and know what's right for you. Oh yeah, and hair splinters, they suck.
- What’s the biggest barber stereotype that people get wrong? -
That we don't like cutting thick hair or that your crown or crowns are to hard for us to cut. Its our job.
- Where do you want to take your career next? -
To be one of the best local Barbers here. In the next 2 years I want to see Ocean Ink Barbers become a premier shop on the Sunshine Coast. To empower and teach other barbers how to work for themselves, to get fully booked, how to grow their own business within a brand and absolutely love barbering cause they reap the fruits of their own labor.
